About
The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.
Dialed Iron was founded by Mike Biestek — Army paratrooper, general contractor, husband, and father of two — in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. It exists because the systems that carry a man through hard things have to be built long before the hard thing arrives.
I started with a paintbrush and a lot of gaps.
I was born and raised on Aquidneck Island. I got into metalwork in high school, then went to work for a local house painter for about three years before starting my own painting company. After that I partnered with a carpenter and we built a handyman operation — he handled the carpentry, I ran the painting side.
Then I closed it. On purpose. Not because it was failing, but because I knew I didn’t know enough yet, and I’d rather go learn than keep selling work I couldn’t fully stand behind.
In 2015 I founded Remodeling Right. Today it’s an award-winning, veteran- and family-owned general contractor serving Newport County, with a real team — project managers, a designer, carpenters and apprentices — running the day-to-day.
Somewhere in that decade the job changed underneath me. I stopped being the guy swinging the hammer and became the guy responsible for everyone swinging one. Nobody warns you that those are two completely different jobs, and that being excellent at the first one doesn’t prepare you for the second at all.
That transition is where most men get quietly buried. I was running my body on whatever was left over, my business on adrenaline, and my patience at home on fumes. So I did the only thing I knew how to do: I built a system.
Service
Rhode Island National Guard. Afghanistan, 2010.
I served as a paratrooper, deployed to Afghanistan in 2010, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor.
The military gave me the thing this entire company is built on: the understanding that under real pressure you don’t rise to the occasion, you fall back on your training. Everything I’ve built since — the business, the routines, Dialed Iron itself — comes out of that one lesson.
It also shaped how I hire and how I lead. Given the choice, I’ll take the veteran every time — I already know how they’ll show up.
What this is, and what it isn’t.
What it is
- A working system, published in public
- Written for men with jobs, kids and no spare hours
- Recommendations that name who should skip them
- A room of men holding the same standard
- Free at the door, and useful before you pay anything
What it isn’t
- Motivation, hype or rah-rah
- A supplement company or a storefront
- Transformation photos without the context
- Income screenshots or manufactured urgency
- Advice from someone who hasn’t run it himself

The people it’s actually for.
My wife Cassie and I have two sons. Everything on this site gets tested against that life first — a real business, a real family, and days that don’t pause because I’m tired. If a routine can’t survive contact with that, it doesn’t get published.
In May 2026 our son Owen was diagnosed with Stage IV Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma. We’re still in the middle of that fight, and it is the reason Dialed Iron exists now rather than someday. Cassie has carried it beside me every step.
I’m stepping back from the day-to-day at Remodeling Right because my family needs the best version of me, not the busiest one. The systems in this manual are a large part of what’s keeping me upright while we get through it — and they’re the reason I think every man should build his before he needs it.
